Strengthening Health Policy: Institutionalising Evidence-Informed Decision-Making

Wednesday 21 May 2025, 5.00–8.00pm CET
Geneva Business School, La Voie-Creuse 16/1st Floor, 1202 Geneva, Switzerland

Evidence-Informed Decision-Making (EIDM) is crucial for developing health policies that are informed by the best available evidence and adapted to local contexts and needs. EIDM can accelerate impactful, contextually sensitive solutions to complex global challenges like health emergencies, climate change, insecurity, and social inequalities.

Organised by the EPPI Centre and the Geneva Science-Policy Interface, this event provides a critical platform to catalyse the institutionalisation of EIDM. We will share valuable lessons learned from piloting the WHO institutionalisation checklist in Trinidad and Tobago, Tajikistan, Thailand, showcasing its potential to drive meaningful change. By bringing together Member States, WHO representatives, researchers, community groups, international organisations, and other stakeholders, this meeting will support future efforts for institutionalising EIDM leading to stronger country capacities for using evidence routinely in decision-making. Together, we will identify key policy challenges and enablers, explore strategies to overcome barriers, and work towards institutionalising EIDM to accelerate progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Event Highlights

  • Welcome Remarks: Ministry of Health, Germany
  • Presentation: Findings from the pilot of the institutionalisation checklist
  • Panel Discussion: Insights from Trinidad and Tobago, Tajikistan, Thailand and South Africa
  • Strengthening EIDM: Funding bodies
  • Closing Comments: Chief Scientist, WHO
  • Cocktail Reception
