Hi I'm losing the first reference in a list I get when I run a PubMed search. The problem seemed intermittent but I can confirm that today it is consistent. Any solutions? Regards GMRaymond

Hello Gerard,

That is unexpected behaviour but if it is consistent we should be able to figure out what is happening. Could you email us (eppisupport@ioe.ac.uk) the search string that you are using. We can then run some tests to determine what is taking place.

Best regards,

Jeff

Hi Jeff Here is the search string, but there are a about three or four examples of it happening on 28/9/15: ("child abuse, sexual"[MeSH Terms] OR "child abuse, sexual"[MeSH Terms]) AND "organizational culture"[MeSH Terms] returned 8 items instead of 9. The pattern on that day seemed to be the first ref dropping off. I only found out the discrepancy because I was using the NCBI PubMed Advanced Search Builder to find MeSH terms and then running the search first in PubMed and then on Eppi-Reviewer. Today 1/10/15 when I ran the same query it came back with 9 items. It showed 9 items imported. But when I saved it the list has only 8. So the problem is still there, and seems to be a storage issue??? I'm very happy to share my login details GMRaymond and my password so you can investigate - you can e-mail me at 18115696@student.uwa.edu.au Many thanks Gerard Marque Raymond

Hello Gerard,

I tried running your search and saw the same thing you have described. The search result finds 9 items when using the PubMed import but only 8 get transferred to EPPI-Reviewer. The item that isn't getting transferred is 'Child abuse in religiously-affiliated institutions: long-term impact on men's mental health.'

I then tried running a search on that title using the PubMed import and it found the item. But, when I tried to import the item nothing was imported. It appears the problem is specific when using the PubMed import.

It is possible that the webservice (that we use to talk to PubMed) is refusing to hand over the data for that item. We have seen similar situations when searching other databases although that was when using the databases own interface.

It is also possible there is something about that item that is confusing EPPI-Reviewer and stopping it from being imported. I didn't see anything unusual looking in the data for that item in the preview screen (before clicking Import) but what we see in the preview screen and the data PubMed sends when you click Import might be different. We will need to look at this in more detail.

In the meantime you can run your searches on the PubMed site. You just need to save as 'File' and make sure you pick 'Medline' as the format. You will then use the 'PubMed' filter in EPPI-Reviewer. I tested this and all 9 items were imported.

The fact that you can get 9 items using the file method but only 8 using the webservice makes me suspect there might be an issue with that item through the webservice. We will update this thread when we know more.

Best regards,

Jeff

Hello Gerard,

I wanted to follow-up on my last reply. We continued to look into this PubMed issue and we found a scenario that would account for your missing item.

Today we published a new version of EPPI-Reviewer that addresses this issue so you shouldn't have this problem any more.

Best regards,

Jeff
