When i assign random codes with an allocation <100%, i only seem to get documents with an older date. So in a review with documents with dates from 1970-something to 2010, if i assign 50% randomly, the groups thus created contain no refs newer than 2003. Any thoughts?

Hello Theo,

This result might be possible depending on how you chose the items to include in the allocation.

When you click on the 'Assign documents to specified codes randomly' icon the first drop down menu allows you to select where you should get your studies from. I haven't looked at your review at this point but is it possible you had inadvertently restricted your selected studies to those with an older date?

Best regards,

Jeff

i don't think so; i've got "no code / code set filter" selected. Also, the cutoff point isn't constant but depends on the % allocation (e.g. a 20% allocation only gets me to 1993).

Hi Theo,

I've had a look at this and there can be an allocation that isn't completely random in some circumstances (like those you've outlined!). I've fixed the procedure that causes this and, so long as it passes testing tomorrow, then it will be made live. (It doesn't require an update of the software running on the website, just the database that works in the background.)

Sorry about the inconvenience, but hopefully you'll have true random allocation very soon.

James.

(The fact that dates appear significant in your case is probably related to the order in which items were imported, rather than anything about the random allocation function.)

Hi Theo and James,

James has written the solution yesterday and I've validated it today. It looks fine to both, so I've published the changes. As James stated, this didn't require a complete re-publish but was a strictly-server-side bug-fix.

Please do let us know if you'll experience any more problems with random-allocation (or any other function!).

Best wishes,

Sergio
