Hello,

We have been running into some problems trying to delete child codes.  We have one called 'Tech Backlog' under 'Disease and Relevance' in our 'BCATPR Yes' review.  We have now decided that this child code belongs under a different parent.  We have added it into that code set, and would now like to delete the original.  EPPI keeps giving a long error message when we try to do this (it begins with 'DataPortalUpdated failed'.  I can provide more details if that would help).

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Ali

Hello Ali,

I just had a look at your review. In the 'Disease and Relevance' codeset I did not see a code named 'Tech Backlog'. Can I assume you were able to delete it?

I suspect it may have been a timing out issue. The database gets re-indexed during the course of the day so an operation that may have timed out at one point might run successfully a bit later. Perhaps this is what happened?

Best regards,

Jeff

Hi Jeff,

Thanks for checking.  It has been happening again over the last two days, resulting in a very cluttered code set.  I've re-named all the ones we want to get rid of as 'DELETE'.  If re-indexing is the problem, can you let me know when that generally takes place, and we can avoid doing this type of work during those hours?

Edited to add: The codes are deleted once I log out and log back in.

Thanks,

Ali

Hello Ali,

If the code is gone when you come back into the review it is getting deleted when you run the operation but something is generating an error. Would you be able to grab a screen shot of the error message the next time this happens. We could then have a look at it to see might be going on.

As for what re-indexing is, it is like an optimization routine that runs across the whole EPPI-Reviewer database. Over the length of the day a lot of data gets written to and removed from the database (across all reviews and all users) so this optimization routine reorganizes the data so it can be more quickly accessed by the program. It runs at various times depending on the state of the database.

Your issue might be related but we would need to see the error message to know for sure.

Best regards,

Jeff

Hi Jeff,

I have had no problem deleting codes and code sets today, but will post with a screenshot if it happens again.

Thanks,

Ali
