Hello,

I am new to Eppi-reviewer and am setting up my codes for the first time.  I don't understand what the options of intervention, comparison and outcome do in the Code Set 'code type".  When I have tried applying intervention or comparison as the type, the button created next to the 'info' button on the coding list says 'outcomes'.  In this box I am expected to select comparisons and interventions presumable that I have already set as a code.  i am confused.

I can't find any information in the user manual or on the you tube clips on how you go about setting up codes to get the information in in a sensible way.  I found a post in this forum from 2010 on a similar topic with a promise of information being added to the user manual.  This would be really helpful.

What to all the options in 'code type' mean please.

Debbie

Hello Debbie,

Details on the different code types related to interventions, comparisons and outcomes can be found in the user manual under the section ‘Meta-analysis’. You will find this around page 60 of the manual.

If you select a codetype to be outcome it is selectable in the coding screening and you can enter numeric outcome data by clicking on the ‘Outcomes’ button. If you specify that a given code to be intervention or comparison, it is still selectable in the standard coding screen, but it also then appears in the screen where statistical outcome data are entered, and in the meta-analysis screens.

Although it might only make sense to enter numeric outcome data when the codeset is set for outcomes the ‘Outcomes’ button is visible whether you set the codetype to interventions, comparisons or outcomes. Some users were having difficulty figuring out how to get the outcome button to appear so we made it visible for all three types.

Best regards,

Jeff
