Hi,

when removing our duplicates, EPPI did not pick up all the duplicates automatically. Therefore on our School Feeding systematic review we began to remove the duplicates manualy. Using the manual/advance tab we added three duplicates. However, they are no longer visible under 'manually added items', and we want to remove one of them from the list of duplicates as it will need to be included as the master version. So why can we no longer see the three duplicates we have added manually in the manage duplicates window?

Thanks for your help,

Sam

Hi Matt,

I've given a quick look at your data and everything appears to be working as I would expect. There is one group (ID 259768) that has three manually added members. I can see them in the interface so it's difficult to tell what does not work for you.

I will do a little guess work: it's possible that you expected the "manually added" items to appear at all times, regardless of what duplicate group is selected. This is not the case, because "manually added" items are added to a specific group: this is useful when you spot an item that should be marked as a duplicate of an existing group.

Since in your case the three manually added items are not related to any existing group, what you should do is to create a brand new group for them. Here is how:

1) in the main Duplicate-checking window (duplicates main), select the 259768 group and "Remove" the three manually added items.
2) close the duplicates window. At this stage you want to make sure all the three items that you are dealing with are shown in the main "Documents" screen, this will make the next steps much easier.
3) Your review contains less that 700 references, so all the three items should now be visible in the main screen, locate and select them.
4) Re-open the duplicates window and activate the "Manual/Advanced" tab.
5) Click on the blue "Plus" icon (Add new group). This will open a "Create New Group: select group members" window.
6) Check that the three items you have selected in 3) are selected (they should, as "selections" are carried over from the main screen in order to make this step trivial), if they are not selected, find and selected them within the list of items. Click "next".
7) The next (and final) step allows you to select the master of the new group. Note that there are three columns that display numbers, these are ment to help you deciding what is your best master, they show:
 - number of related groups: if this is not zero, you might want to add items to that group instead
 - number of codes applied: if only one item has been coded, it's likely that you will want that one to be the master
 - number of documents attached: as above, if some document has been uploaded for a given item, it's likely that you want to make it the master.
8) Click finish. A new group will be created. This new group will be functionally identical to automatically created groups.

I hope this helps!

Sergio

Hi Sergio,

thanks very much - that did the trick!

As you say, the problem was that we couldn't see the documents that we had marked as duplicates. But now following the method of creating a group we shouldn't have this problem in the future.

Best,

Sam
