Whilst in a dual review, my colleague and I have reconciled our disagreements and ensured all codes are marked complete. This should therefore update the exclude/include list of documents. However, this is not the case. Instead, we need to select the assign documents to be included/excluded function and select all individual codes manually again as exclude/include accordingly. Only then does the exclude/include list of documents begin to be updated. This doesn't seem right, however, or does it?

Many thanks for your help!

Hi Mat,

what you describe is 'by design' behaviour. The program does not make any assumptions about how you will want to carry on your review. It does not mandate to use the include/exclude flag and therefore it does not have a hard-coded link between exclusion-codes and the excluded flag. There are many reasons for this, but the basic principle is that we wanted the program to allow different approaches: for example, with our current design it is possible to import all items as "excluded" and then screen them in reverse, looking for items to be included. The whole idea is expressed in more detail at the start of the "Included/Excluded/Deleted documents" chapter in the manual.

Naturally, greater flexibility comes at the cost of a little less automation, however, since it is possible to mark as excluded large batches of items with just a couple of clicks, we've thought that it was cost worth paying.

<edit>
Apologies, my first suggestion (now removed) was a little crazy. The best way to mark items as excluded is available directly from the main "Assign items as included or excluded" button in the main "Documents" tab.
<end edit>

I hope this clarifies,

Sergio
