I'm doing a review where I work with articles which contain several studies per article.

I'd like to code each study in the article separately so that I can report on studies, rather than articles.

I've done the screening by article but would prefer if I could add several blank coding templates to an article, representing individual studies.

Can you recommend an approach that would help rather than continuing the review in other software?

Hello Reinis,

Since they are different studies you probably want to carry out multiple data extractions (one for each study). What we normally do is manually create a couple of stub references that are similar to the main reference (ex. Smith(2018) - Study 1, Smith(2018) - Study 2, Smith(2018) - Study 3) . We then carry out a data extraction for each study.

When writing up the review we wil normally refer to the number of studies but still put that in the context of the number of references that we identied and screened.

Best regards,

Jeff
