I have identified a combination of search terms (in Ovid) that appears to be fairly precise. I now wish to test this search’s sensitivity by going back to my list of included papers in Eppi and checking that the new search identifies all/most of them. To do this I am using the freetext search (Titles and Abstracts) in the search tab.

The problem is that my search includes proximity operators (adj5 on Ovid) and I don’t know how to do a proximity search in Eppi. The manual says that proximity searches are possible, but I can’t find any list of Eppi search operators.

Is freetext search on a sample of included papers an appropriate way to test search sensitivity? And could somebody give me a list of freetext operators?

I'd be very grateful for any help!

Hi Harry,

An example would be NEAR((children, education), 5 so entering this in the search box would produce any results where children and education were found within 5 words of each other...

The underlying database is running on Microsoft SQL Servers, and utilises the standard text searching functions available on this system. (See https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sql/...le-transact-sql for further details.)

I will create some more detailed, easy-to-follow, instructions and post them as soon as I am able. Since your query, we realised we have not actually documented the advanced search functionality within EPPI Reviewer in any detail, so it may prove useful to others as well.

Kind regards,

Zak Ghouze
