Hi there,

I wondered if anyone has any suggestions on how best to double sift a sample of papers (around 10%) for quality assurance purposes. I know Eppi has the option of 'Comparison' data entry, but using this means the entries aren't marked as complete, meaning some of the basic functionality of Eppi won't work (for example, filtering by code set allocation).

Since we're only double-blind sifting a small sample of the papers for QA, is there a way of using 'Normal' data entry but still being able to double-blind sift some papers.

Can anyone suggest a possible workaround please?

Many thanks

Gareth

Hello Gareth,

Screening a sample of the studies in comparison mode for quality assurance is something that we do on many of our own reviews. It helps us see if all reviewers are interpreting the screening criteria in the same way.

Comparison mode is a property of a codeset so you would only need to set your screening codeset to comparison coding. Your other coding tools can stay in normal mode. If you need to filter by an allocation code then it would work as normal as that codeset would be set for normal mode (as administration codesets can't be set to comparison mode). Once you were done screening your sample and the coding is marked as complete you can then return the screening codeset to normal mode (and finish screening the remaining items).

If the issue is that you need to be using both comparison and normal screening at the same time (perhaps you only want to use comparison coding for selected individuals) you could have a second identical screening tool that was set for comparison coding. You would then create coding assignments and comparisons using that screening tool without affecting the normal screening that was ongoing. If needed, you could then afterward use bulk code assignment to have all of the screening under one codeset.

If I am misinterpreting your question please let me know.

Best regards,

Jeff
