Hello, I'm getting a popup which says: "DataPortal.Fetch failed (Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding.)" As far as I can tell nothing else has gone wrong. Any thoughts? Thanks

Just adding my voice here - this is also happening to me.

Rejaine MR - don't worry too much, you aren't doing anything wrong. This is the third time in as many weeks that this has happened and it has always been sorted within one or two days at most, as long as someone is proactive in bringing the issue to their attention.

Specifically it happens when I try to go to the second (which in my case is the last) page of studies. Is that the case for you too?

Cheers

Eliel

Hello Rejaine, Eliel,

Last week we found that many people were getting this timeout issue. We made some adjustments to the database and it seemed to help but it looks like it is still an issue.

I just tried going to page 2 of Eliel's list of studies (for the Research.2 review) and got the timeout message. I'm pretty sure it is the same issue that Rejaine is having and what we were seeing last week.

We are having a look at this now to see what might be happening.

Best regards,

Jeff

Hello Rejaine, Eliel,

The database goes through a number of automated optimisations everyday. The way the optimisations work are dependant on the activity that is going on in EPPI-Reviewer at that time. What sometimes happens is that the system will optimise itself for very large reviews (>100,000) which causes smaller reviews (~1000 and less items) to start timing out. This is what you were seeing. (sometimes the opposite will happen as well where the big reviews timeout but the smaller ones are fine)

We are looking at ways to make this process more robust but it is possible it might happen again. We appreciate when EPPI-Reviewer users draw our attention to these timeouts so as we can manually adjust the database to get it working correctly again.

Best regards,

Jeff
