I want to compare the coding of two reviewers of just one of the lists of data we have that relate to a particular search. I have tried various approaches but nothing seems to work. Any ideas?

Hello Mary
If you wish to compare coding one item at a time, you could pull up your search result (so it is displayed in the documents tab), go into the first item (so you are in the Document details window) and click on the Coding record tab (on the upper right had side). In that tab you would select the coders to compare and then click on the ‘Run comparison’ button. A window will pop up with the comparison.

If you wish to step through the items you could run a live comparison (on the same screen).  You should click on the ‘Live comparison’ button, then select the codeset you compare (over on the left side of the screen) and all of the coding for the selected codeset will be displayed at the bottom of the screen (on the right). By clicking on next/previous item you can see the coding for each item.

If you wish to have all of the items and all of the coding displayed in one window then you will want to set up a comparison in the collaborate tab. This will first require you to identify the items to compare by assigning a common code to them. You may wish to create a codeset called something like ‘Items to compare’. You could then add a code to this set that has a name related to the group of items to compare. You should then add that code to all of the items.

Now, on the collaborate page you can ‘Create comparison’. You should select the reviewers to compare, the codeset that you want to compare and then under ‘Set attribute (optional)’ select the code that you just created. This means that the system will just look at the items with that code. Once the comparison is created you can click on ‘Quick report’ and all of the items and how they were coded will be displayed.

Thanks Jeff, but how will this work unless the coding is 'complete' and how can it be complete until we've compared it? Sorry if I'm missing something.

Hello Mary,

In the different scenarios you will see each persons coding even if the item is not marked as complete.

Live comparison on the coding screen will show each persons coding even if the item is not marked as complete. If you run a ‘Create comparison’ on the Collaborate tab you will be able to run a ‘quick report’ that shows each persons coding whether the item is marked as complete or not.

Is this what you mean or am I misunderstanding what you are asking?

Hi Jeff

I am more confused now. What I want to do is compare all my coding on one list with Tobys, automatically so that I can see how may disaggreements we have so that we can go through them and resolve differences. I can't see how to do this from one list. Hope that is clearer.

Best wishes

Mary

Hello Mary,

This sounds like you would want to run a ‘Create comparison’ on the collaborate page.

What you need to do is to first identify the items that you want to compare. You should then assign a code to those items so they can be easily recalled.
You should then run a ‘Create comparison’ on the collaborate page.  Select yourself for Reviewer 1 and Toby for Reviewer 2. For Code set select the ‘Screening criteria’ codeset (if that is the codeset that you want to compare). For the ‘Set Attribute (optional)’ option, select that code that you assigned to all of the items you want to compare. This is telling the system to only look at the items with that code.

This will create a row in the ‘Create comparison’ table. You should then click on ‘Run’ under Quick report.  For the ‘Select this code (set)’ option, select the codeset that you want to compare (‘Screening criteria’).  A window will appear where you can see each persons coding for each item.

Jeff
