Hello!

We are including a grey literature search in our systematic literature review.  Is there anyway to automatically upload our Google or Yahoo search results into Eppi-Reviewer?  We want to avoid having to upload each hit by hand...

Thanks!

Sheri

Hello Sheri,

There isn't an easy way to import Google or Yahoo search results. The problem is that your Google or Yahoo search results are links (possibly to citations) but not actual citations. You need to dig down into the link and look for the citation (if it actually is a citation).

There are some programs that attempt to do this. Zotero allows you to drag the link into their software and will try to separate any citation details in the data. If the data is in a clean format it can sometimes sort it out and you can then export the results out of Zotero back into EPPI-Reviewer. My experience of this is that it is very dependant on the data that is returned in the search results which is something you do not have any control over.

On our own systematic reviews we will search for grey literature in google but will carry out a form of pre-screening in the web page. Only the items that look potentially relevant will be retrieved and entered into EPPI-Reviewer. We will still keep track of the total number of items that we looked at. We have found this to be a quick but still transparent method.

Best regards,

Jeff
