Thanks v much

Hi Theo,

apparently Mozilla has removed the ability to disable the crash protection for Silverlight only. It's all or nothing now, I'm afraid.

To disbale crash protection:

1.Type about:config in the URL box and, if necessary, click "I’ll be careful , I promise"

2.Search for ipc in Filter box .

3.Double click on dom.ipc.plugins.enabled to set the value to false.

4.Restart Firefox .That’s it, "plugin–container/crash protection" is disabled.

This will disable the infamous crash protection for all plug-ins, including Adobe Flash. The drawback of this approach is that if a plug-in genuinely crashes, the crash will propagate to Firefox itself; on the other hand, with the protection turned on a crash only affects the web pages that use the crashing plug-in.

Alternatively, to remove the main source of trouble within EPPI-Reviewer, but keep Firefox Crash protection active, you may:

1.Type about:config in the URL box and, if necessary, click "I’ll be careful , I promise"

2.Search for ipc in Filter box .

3.Set the value of dom.ipc.plugins.timeoutSecs to -1

4.Restart Firefox .

This prevents Firefox to mistakenly assume that EPPI-Reviewer 4 has stopped responding (usually happens when waiting for the user to click on a dialog box) and subsequently shutting down the application.

I hope this helps,

Sergio

Hi,

Yes, you're right: you can still disable crash protection for Silverlight only.

(Adapted from technogadge.com)

  1. Enter about:config in the Firefox address bar.
  2. Ignore the warning and go ahead by pressing “I’ll be careful, I promise!” button.
  3. Enter dom.ipc.plugins.enabled in the Filter field.
  4. Right click in the white space below Preferences Name.
  5. From the menu select Boolean under New.
  6. Enter new Boolean Value as dom.ipc.plugins.enabled.npctrl.dll
  7. Then enter the boolean value as false.

This works in my test environment with Firefox 6.

In the end I have:
dom.ipc.plugins.enabled set to the default value "True",
and the new dom.ipc.plugins.enabled.npctrl.dll boolean entry set to "False".

Best wishes,
Sergio
