Hi,

I've been trying to  runa  comparison between two authors to check for agreements/disagreements in our coding but every time I try I get the following message - "[ScriptObject_InvokeFailed] Debugging resource strings are unavailable" - and then the whole systems crashes.

Am I doing something wrong or is this a problem with the system?

Hi Beki, 

I may have spotted what is wrong: it might be that the popup report is blocked by your browser, please see if the following helps.

How to allow popups from a specific site: for Internet Explorer (IE), or FireFox.

If it does not, and if you are using IE, you may want to add "http://eppi.ioe.ac.uk" to your list of "trusted sites" (instructions here).

Otherwise, I'm sorry but I might need more information to isolate this issue. I've tried to run comparisons in your review and couldn't replicate this. Are you accessing the comparison features from the "coding record" tab in the "document details" window or from the "collaborate" tab (main screen)? In any case, since this appears to be difficult to replicate, I will need to know exactly how you are able to trigger the error: this includes the specific document you are looking at (if applicable) and the code/code set you are working with.

If this does not help, it is possible that we won't be able to fix your problem during the week end: for security reasons, there are lots of things we can't change from home.

Hi Sergio,

I seem to have hit another problem running the comparisons. Now, when I try and run one I get a warning box saying 'data portal. update failed' and then a long list of stuff underneath and then my internet crashes completely.

 I've check and the pop-ups are still allowed from the eppi site so it's not that. Any suggestions?

Hi Beki,

Sorry to hear you have some other problem.

I'm not in the UK at the moment so I have limited powers of investigation, I'm afraid. In any case, Jeff and I are looking into this and will report back as soon as possible.

Hi Beki,

we were unable to recreate the "update failed" problem, this means we can't be sure of what went wrong. From what we see now, after performing a little house-keeping behind the scenes, everything should be working perfectly. If it does not, we'll be eager to fix it, but we would probably need detailed instructions on how to trigger the error.

About the full crash that you get after the error: this is probably caused by a known problem with FireFox, I talk a little about it HERE (third post).
