I've been using the search function to identify certain articles with mulitple codes assigned to them.

I then update the codes on these documents and refresh the search results.

However, when I click the button the search results don't change. I have to manually go back and re-search for specific codes and redo all the combination searches as well.

Can you please fix the button?

Cheers,

Wil

Hello William,

I'm afraid that the searches are running as we designed them: they are there also to provide customisable records of what results would comply to a given set of search criteria at the time of searching (they provide a snapshot, by design).
In your case, without checking your review, I am hoping that you may find your required "search results" in much faster ways, but using different features. I'll give you a few examples.

  1.  If you wish to find all items that have a given code in real time, all you need to do is to right click the code in question and "List items with this code". The "frequencies" tab can give you access to similar lists for multiple codes in one go.
  2.  If you wish to find all items that have a combination of two codes, then you can use the crosstabs (a very powerful and informative feature - I highly recommend it).
  3.  If you wish to find all items that have a combination of three codes, you can still use the crosstabs, but will need to also set the "Filter (optional)" value.
  4.  Finally, if you do need to find items that have a combination of four codes, then I'm afraid the quickest option is to create new searches each time. We do hope this is a rare occurrence, though.

In other words, we are relatively confident that we don't need to "fix" how searches work, so I don't anticipate we'll be changing how they work in the foreseeable future. Instead, we do hope that the other features of EPPI-Reviewer provide equally quick and customisable ways to achieve what you need.

Please do correct me if I'm wrong. We're always open to suggestions.
Best wishes,
Sergio

Hi Sergio and thanks for the clarification!

For the combinations I am doing about 3 searches for specific codes, combining them with "OR" and then combining the results with another code with "AND" so I guess I'll have to just manually keep repeating the code searches.

Could you explain the function of the "refresh search results" button? Like what does it do?

Cheers,

Wil

Hi William,

I'm sorry we can't offer more useful features for your use-case...

The "refresh search results" button fetches an updated list of search results. This might be useful especially in two situations:

  1. When other people are doing searches, you might "know" they are doing so, and might want to get the results (unlike other lists, the list of searches does not automatically refresh every time you access the relevant tab). This situation is, in our expectations, quite rare.
  2. People are using some machine learning features, which produce "ordered" search results. Since these can take quite some time to complete, it's handy to be able to refresh the list to see if/when the results have arrived. We expect this to be the main reason for people to click on "refresh search results".
