We double-screened on full text. Yesterday, we printed out a coding comparison report. We indicated the final decision on paper. Now, I would like to reconcile the coding in EPPI reviewer. However, the order of items on the print-out and the reconcile-coding-tab are different.

Is there a way to re-order the reconcile-coding-tab-content by ID (as in the comparison report)? Or to search for the ID in the reconcile-coding-tab? Or to reconcile the coding from the Document Details tab?

Many thanks in advance, as this could safe me multiple hours of looking up items in a long table.

Hello Hayaan,

I'm afraid I don't have many good news for you: although we didn't anticipate this way of proceeding, I do have some good news below. The not so good news: unfortunately, the "reconcile" window isn't as flexible as you'd like it to be - we just didn't think about your usage-case. Thus:

> Is there a way to re-order the reconcile-coding-tab-content by ID (as in the comparison report)? Or to search for the ID in the reconcile-coding-tab?

Answer is "no, sorry!" to both questions. I'll keep this in mind as a possible improvement.

> [Is there a way] to reconcile the coding from the Document Details tab?

Answer to this question is a definite "Yes", that's where double-coding exercises are reconciled when dealing with complex (non-screening) codesets. The process is explained in the manual in pages 66-68.

There are two complications, though. The first is that when completing the coding from the document window, the "version" that is completed is the one belonging to the currently logged-on person. I'll paste here the warning we've written for the manual:

An important point to remember when marking an item as complete is that the coding of the person marking the items as complete becomes the completed coding. Always make sure your coding is correct before you mark the item as complete.

It means that, unlike the "Reconcile" window, in this case, you might have to change your decision in order to match the agreed version, and then complete the coding (doing it in reverse order works as well, to be honest). This will not change the numbers reported in the "comparison stats" (comparisons are created as snapshots of the situation as it was at creation time), so your audit trail about agreements/disagreements will not be impacted, assuming you have (and won't delete) the original comparison.

The other complication is that the order in which you can flick through items in the "Document details" window depends on how the main list is sorted. Thus, I believe you'll want to order that list before opening the details. To do so:

  1. Get your list of disagreements from the relative comparison.
  2. Open the "select the field you want to display" dialog (main toolbar, icon to the left of the binoculars), tick "Document ID".
  3. Click on the "ID" column header to sort by the Id values.
  4. Open up the first document and you should find documents to be ordered like in the report you've used.

I hope this helps, my apologies for not anticipating the (very legitimate) need you've reported.

Thank you very much, Sergio!

Reconciling in the details window worked perfectly for me.
