I think of the outcome classification codes as a filtering tool to select your outcomes when setting up a meta-analysis. You will want to create an outcome classification code for each classification (male, female, etc.). When entering your outcome data you will need to create an outcome for each classification (by selecting 'New outcome' in the 'Edit outcomes' window). When you click 'New outcome' you will find yourself in the 'Edit/create outcome' window where you will enter your outcome data. On the right side of that window you will find the classification codes that you previously created. By selecting the appropriate classification code you will be able to find the correct outcome data when setting up your meta-analysis.
