Dear Team,

Please, I'm new to this software and would like to find out if it's possible to create two separate sections within the data extraction tool: 1 for quantitative and 1 for qualitative.

My review combines both quantitative and qualitative studies. While I would like to extract information on the interventions in both studies on one coding form with several child codes, in the case of study characteristics, methods and analysis, I would like to have two coding forms so that when the study is quantitative, I will only use the quantitative coding form and vise versa.

Please, kindly advice me if this will work and that I can generate my reports along these lines.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Thanks, Ebenezer

Hello Ebenezer,

You have complete freedom to set up your coding tools however you wish to do so. You can have all of your qualitative and quantitative questions in the same coding tool or you could separate them into different coding tools; it really is up to what you think will make it easier for you. I think of data extraction as asking a series of questions about your studies to collect the data in those studies so as long as you follow the format of questions with possible answers (and possibly arranging those questions into sections) you should be able to collect all of the data you need, both qualitative and quantitative, in an organised fashion.

As for generating reports, in the configurable report tab you can group questions and answers from different coding tools so it doesn't matter whether the qualitative and quantitative questions are in the same tool or different tools.

As to how I might set it up, it would depend on the process being followed. If you had different people collecting the qualitative and quantitative data then it might make sense to have separate tools. As well, if it was going to take place at different times then separate tools might make it easier to control the work flow. But, if it was all going to happen at once and the same person was collecting the data then I would probably keep it all in same coding tool.

Best regards,

Jeff
