Hi, I want to delete a Pubmed Search, but I cannot do it. The Alert text is below: "Data Portal.update failed (system.data.sqlclient.sqlexception (0x80131904): Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding." There are several other lines under this text. There is no master status in removing duplicates in this file. I haven't done any work yet. I just want to remove this because I have a new search. I have to note that there are around 4500 items in this search. So, it can be the reason for timeout. Nevertheless, I want to remove it. What can I do? Thank you in advance! Tomris

Hello Tomris,

Deleting a source is a two step process. The first delete, which you do in the 'Sources' tab and assigns the 'D' flag to the items, will normally work fine. It is the second step, where the source is permanently removed from the database that is causing your timeout. The timeout is related to the strategy the database base chooses to carry out the delete. To optimise this strategy we re-index the database about twice a day. If a large delete is attempted when the database requires re-indexing it will sometimes timeout. If you were to try the delete a bit later (after the re-indexing) it should delete successfully. 

We have had a few people experience this timeout problem so we are going to make some changes in how the second stage delete is carried out. We hope to have this in place for the next publish of EPPI-Reviewer.

Hello Jeff, Thank you for your response. I understand that I should try to delete the source more than once in the day? Is that right? I've been trying to delete a few times in the past 2 hours, but it didn't work yet. I will continue trying throughout the day. If it doesn't work, I will come back here. Best, Tomris

I'm not sure if you were able to delete that source but if you have not been successful please let us know the name of it and we can have a look at it from here.
