This map explores what works in primary care to address inequalities across a range of socioeconomic domains, such as area-based deprivation, income, employment and occupation. The research articles within this map are useful for informing the design of equity-focused interventions, but care should be given to include issues of intersectionality in any design. For example, when ‘disadvantaged groups’ is plotted against ‘disadvantaged groups’ (which can be done using the Crosstab function), we see that there are many studies involving both socioeconomic status and ethnicity, but in terms of other combinations of multiple disadvantage, there is very little research. This needs to be addressed in order to design evidence-based interventions to reduce inequalities for people experiencing multiple disadvantage.
