The REF (formerly known as the Research Assessment Exercise (RAE)) takes place about every 5 years, and is important as it affects government funding of IoE. REF grading is based on publications and other outputs so the IoE’s Research Units play a key role.

The Institute Research Strategy is available via the Institute’s Mission and Strategy webpages.

Information on the REF is available at on the HEFCE website.

See IoE Policy

It is the Unit policy to encourage and support staff to publish their research and to complete accurate and up-to-date records of all relevant activities for the REF.

The Institute’s PRECIS database is used to collect all information on staff and their publications for submission for the REF.

It is the responsibility of all staff Grade 8 and above to provide all necessary relevant information for the REF in a timely fashion.
