Hello,

Are there any plans to make it possible to search for additional text within codes or code sets?  To give an example (entirely hypothetical): You might have a code set titled 'Study Location', with the child codes 'Country', 'State', and 'City'.  This feature would allow you to do a search for articles with 'New York' in the additional text field of the child code 'City'.  It would not retrieve studies that were set in New York State, but not in New York City.

Although we have no urgent need for this feature in our review, I can envision scenarios in which it would be very helpful to us in the future.

Thanks,

Ali

Hello Alison,

Although it is not possible to carry out the search you are describing in a single operation you could run two searches and then combine them using the AND operator.

In the 'Search' tab you would first run a search using the 'with this code' option and select the 'City' code. The second search would be run using the 'containing this text' and 'Additional text' options and entering 'New York' in the text box.

Next, you would select the two searches, make sure the 'AND' operator is selected (at the top of the search tab) and then click 'Combine'. This third operation would identify all of the items that have the code 'City' and the additional text 'New York'.

As for combining these steps into a single operation, it would be possible to do. The issue is that it is just one possible search combination out of an almost limitless number of combinations that could be generated using the search functions. Deciding which combination to make into a single operation will require determining which combinations are the most often used. We can look at this further to see if this is a combination that should be combined into one step but in the meantime you should find that the functionality that you required is available (albeit using multiple steps).

Best regards,

Jeff
