Hello,

With my team we would like to export a list of studies including all the coding in an Excel spreadsheet, with one study per row and one code per column (with just the results of the coding in the cells, nothing more: no dots, no coding category, etc.). In other words, we would like to get the same ouput than what we can have with the “List formatted bibliography / export table” --> “export current page citation” but with all the coding, not only the fields that can be selected through the “Select  the fields you want to display below” button.

I have looked at previous blog posts and haven’t found any satisfying solution. The export of a (configurable/summary) report is is the closest solution I have found but is not sufficient given that:

-not all fields can be added, e.g. we can’t add the authors’ field

-there is still much cleaning to do afterwards, which we can’t do given the high number of studies that we have

We would be very grateful if you had any solution in mind.

Thanks a lot,

Thomas

Hello again,

Best solution I thought about until now:

To add full authors:
-extract both the configurable report and the “List formatted bibliography / export table” --> “export current page citation”, and merge the two e.g. based on the ID or the title (which appear in both extraction) using another software (e.g. Stata). I haven't tried it yet but it should work.

To have less cleaning to do afterwards, configure more your configurable report:
-erase the column title (so that it does not appear in each cell)
-choose to display only the code in each cell (or what you want to see appearing)

This solution is however not satisfying. Two issues:
-We want to add fields that are neither accessible through the configurable report nor through the “List formatted bibliography / export table” --> “export current page citation" html. For example, the codings' details of studies' quality (critical appraisal), the URLs, etc.
-As soon as a study has a column with several values (several coding), the Excel file that we would get from the html one will contain several cells in the corresponding column for a single study row. A lot of cleaning has still to be done then. It would be way better to have the possibility to have one column per code (e.g. with a value of 1 if coded this way or 0 otherwise).

Any idea about how to resolve these issues?

Thank you so much for your help,

Thomas

Dear Thomas,

Unfortunately it's not directly possible to get what you want from EPPI Reviewer, though you can "assemble" the required elements into one report.

(We are constantly adding to the reporting features in ER Web, but - as yet - you can only create configurable reports  in ER 4, though once created they can be run in both ER 4 and ER Web. ER Web does have a "Quick Question Report" which is very useful for getting coding information into Excel.)

We have merged reference and coding information before to produce reports similar  to that which you want. Note that you can also tailor configurable reports (and tailor the individual column options) to ensure they don't repeat codeset names, don't have bullet points or infobox prefixes, etc. - all of which makes them tidier and easier to read when viewed in a spreadsheet.

I have taken a more detailed look at your review (I am assuming it is #14518) and will respond via email with further screenshots and detail.

Kind regards,
