 Hello,

I have set up a test review for which there are many possible outcomes (since there are many research questions, and they can be addressed from the perspective of the patient, the professional, or the institution). I have started setting some of these outcomes as "outcome" codes (using Properties), which means that the box labelled "outcomes" appears in the screen to the left of the scientific paper (the 'item') for which I am doing data extraction. I now need to enter the actual data from the paper. When I click on the outcomes box, I get the following message: "No data associated with this code set for this item yet", and I can't enter any data. I don't understand the instructions about entering data on page 71 of the User's Manual. Your assistance greatly appreciated, so I can continue!

I have a related question: when creating codes in Properties, what does 'Index number' refer to?

Thanks, Lucy

Hello Lucy,

Before clicking on the 'Outcomes' button you need to select the code by clicking on the checkbox. Once it is checked clicking on the 'Outcome' button will open the 'Edit outcomes' window where you can click 'New outcome' and enter your outcome data. You can find information on entering numeric outcome data in the manual under 'Meta-analysis' (pg 68).

The index number refers to the position in the codeset where the code sits. Although you can drag codes around in the codeset and the index number will get updated accordingly, sometimes a code might get confused regarding its position and you can then manually enter a value to put it back in its place.

Best regards,

Jeff
