This evidence map is shared for the purpose of piloting and soliciting feedback. It does not constitute a final product.

This evidence map explores the available evidence on stakeholder engagement models and their appropriate application with stakeholders who generate evidence and stakeholders who use evidence for making policy, management, and practice decisions. It aims to connect decision-makers and researchers to evidence-informed practical guidance about choice and application of these engagement models.

The evidence map contains 72 purposive research papers and practical tools on engaging stakeholders for using and producing evidence. This purposive sample was collated to cover a range of sectors (e.g. development, health, environment), decision-making contexts, and regions. The sample aims to provide a collection of the diverse types of engagement models and tools rather than an exhaustive account of all the available evidence and tools.

Users are encouraged to locate themselves in the 4 quadrants in the stakeholder engagement framework. Following this, users can then access the evidence map to identify relevant engagement tools and research papers. That is, the left axis of the evidence map allows you to navigate between the stakeholder engagement frameworks and the evidence map: e.g. if you are finding yourself in a situation in which generalisable knowledge is available and decision-makers and stakeholders have a shared understanding of context (quadrant A), you can access the relevant evidence in the corresponding row in this evidence map.
