IoE policy is that IoE work should be broadly divided between teaching, research and 3rd stream activity. The Institute's full policy can be read via the Research and Consultancy administration web pages. The Institute Policy and Procedure on Consultancy is available. Key points include: Every consultancy should be approved in advance by the Head of School. Staff are expected to record and declare all income earned from activity related to the mission of the Institute. If a staff member is unsure whether a consultancy should be declared, clarification should be sought from the Head of School. |
See IoE policy All SSRU staff, including part-time staff, undertaking teaching or consultancy for another school within IoE or an external body should do so through a contract with the Unit. The only exception is if the staff member is part-time and the work does not relate to the mission of the Institute - these exceptions must be discussed with your Line Manager or Project Director before any work is undertaken. Third Stream income is subject to 100% overhead and sometimes VAT. After all costs and overheads have been deducted any remaining income will be split 50% between Unit and Project Funds. |
Administrative procedures for costing third stream activity are available from the Faculty Research Manager. NB All EPPI Reviewer support (2% model) should be classed as Third Stream consultancy. |
Staff wishing to undertake activity which may fall under ‘third stream activity’, should speak to their line manager in the first instance. Staff asked to do any teaching at the Institute or elsewhere should speak to the Faculty Research Manager. Staff who are offered honoraria for their work (For example gift vouchers for peer review) should declare this to the Faculty Research Manager and payments of over £50 must go through the Unit as consultancy fees. |
