The IoE has policies on 4 categories of ‘Visitors’ including Visiting Professors, Visiting Fellows, Visiting Academics and Research Associates.
Advice and hourly pay scales for staff associates are available. |
Research Associate contacts are reviewed annually and renewed when: a) has skills that are likely to be relevant to supporting SSRU work. b) anticipates having some availability for Research Associate work over the next 12 months. NB Once put on an fte contract staff associates cannot also retain their associate contract. When Research Associates contracts are renewed, they are asked to provide the Faculty Research Manager with an up-to-date C.V. In accordance with IoE policy, staff associates are now paid on a set rate of pay depending on the individual (not depending on the task as was previously the case). |
See Unit Policy See Staff Procedure NB Induction and Exiting for staff associates differs slightly from that of other staff. If employed on one project for more than 2 months, staff associates are entitled to: an email account; PC login; office key and the door codes. |
See Unit Policy for details Staff wishing to employ administrative or research staff should speak to a member of UMC who will discuss whether or not there are any Research Officers or members of the administrative team who are looking for work and have the right skills before considering whether or not a Staff Associate should be employed. The project director must write a job description against which potential staff associates can be considered. The Faculty Research Manager can advise on the rates of pay and possible availability for particular staff associates. NB No staff associate can be employed without the permission of UMC. Once employment is agreed the Project Director must inform the Unit Manager of all changes to their rate of pay, fte or length of work. Staff recruiting for any post who would like to consider candidates for staff associates must discuss this with the Faculty Research Manager at the advertising stage of recruitment as the possible appointment of staff associates must be specified from the beginning. Project Directors (or their delegate) are responsible for keeping a record of the hours worked by staff associates which must include a lunch hour, if they work full days. Staff associates time-sheets must be passed to the Faculty Research Manager before the 5th of each month. |
