IoE's new PRECIS database and guidance on it's use are available here. See IoE Policy

The Unit's website and Annual Report will draw on PRECIS and any necessary data collection for these 'publications' will not require the same information as PRECIS, to reduce duplication of effort.

See IoE Policy All staff are required to keep information on the PRECIS Database up to date.

Line Managers and Project Directors are responsible for checking this is done for their staff and projects.

Additional guidance is provided below for SSRU staff completing the database:

Additional guidance

Publications

a. There are certain asterisked fields that aren't compulsory (in the previous database all asterisked fields were compulsory).

b. It is fiddly to check that the correct first author is highlighted at the end (page 3 of the IoE guidance doc can help with this)

c. When you have added a new publication, or changed one, you have to click 'submit'

d. Only research admin can delete a publication once you've submitted it.

Expertise profile

A) In order to avoid any more duplication in requests for information, I suggest that you open your SSRU web profile and use this as a source of information with which to complete your expertise profile on the IoE system.

B) The details for the first page of your expertise profile (job title, phone number etc) has been provided by Human Resources and cannot be changed by you. If there are any errors, please inform SSRU's superusers (see below) and they will request that HR make these corrections.

C) On the second page, there is a box called 'Expertise description'. In this box, please include the following (as applicable):

- information about any research you are undertaking and in what area (I suggest you use a general sentence, and don't copy the list of projects from the SSRU web-page. Specific details on the projects will be added to this database as and when we start to use the PROJECT section.)

- information about any teaching you are involved in (copy and paste from your SSRU web-page and update if necessary)

D) On the second page, copy and paste your 'interests' from your SSRU web page into the 'Special Interests' box

E) On the second page, in the 'Public further information' box, please include:

- information about any journals you peer review for (this can be copied and pasted from your SSRU webpage and updated if necessary)

- information about any Cochrane groups which you are a reviewer for

- if you are a PhD supervisor at SSRU or elsewhere, please include it here (there is a space later on for the number of PhD theses you have supervised to completion)

- information about any SSRU / IoE committees on which you sit (this can be copied and pasted from your SSRU webpage and updated if necessary)

F) On page 5 'Positions', add details of any advisory groups, editorial boards, and editorships. Again, your SSRU webpage should be a quick reference source of information to make this task easier. If you are an external examiner at another university, please enter it here as a 'prestigious position'

G) You have to add at least one keyword to your expertise profile or you will not be able to submit your profile. See the 'Keywords' guidance document provided on the IoE website via the link above.

H) When you have finished completing your expertise profile, you must go to the last page, tick the 'Declaration' box and then click submit.
