SSRU Induction Programme for Students

In addition to the information you have received from the Registry of the Institute of Education, you should have received the following information. If you are missing anything or if there is anything else you would like to know, please ask the Unit Secretary, who is responsible for student administration at the Unit (or any member of the administrative or academic management team if Unit Sec is unavailable).

  1. An Institute data protection form that must be completed, signed, and returned to the Unit Secretary before you begin studying at the Unit.
  2. Details of Unit evacuation procedures, including a copy of the Unit's Health and Safety Procedures.
  3. A copy of the Unit's Handbook, which contains important information regarding studying at SSRU.
  4. A Personal details form that must be completed, signed, and returned to the Unit Secretary on your first day at the Unit
  5. A website details form to be submitted to the Marketing Officer
  6. A web consent form to be completed and returned to the Unit Secretary on your first day at the Unit.

On Arrival

On your first day at the Unit, you should report to the Unit Administrative office on the ground floor of 18 Woburn Square at the prearranged time. There you will meet the Unit Secretary. The Unit Secretary will:

  1. Arrange meetings with the Research Tutor/Course Leader, Unit Manager.
  2. Show you the Unit diary, student room, seminar room, post room and related resources.
  3. Explain the use of the student room and the booking system for its use.
  4. Conduct a health and safety tour of SSRU.
  5. Give you access door codes for the Unit (NB These numbers are confidential and should never be disclosed to anyone who is not a full time member of Unit staff, a Visiting Fellow at SSRU, or a fellow student at SSRU).

Starting studying - Information Systems Officer

The Unit Secretary will introduce you to the Unit's Information Systems Officer (Gerry Hickman) who will explain the basic Unit computing facilities including shared email lists, shared servers, where to obtain help, and how to access the Unit's internal and external web pages.
